The Ministry of Economy threatens violating generator owners

Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Basat issued a stern warning to private generator owners, stressing that the ministry will initiate strict measures and penalties immediately after the expiration of the 45-day deadline. This is in implementation of Prime Ministerial Circular No. 2025/31 issued on August 12, 2025, which emphasized the need for full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
In an official memorandum issued on Tuesday, Basat emphasized that any violation after the deadline will be met with seizure reports, generators will be confiscated, and their owners will be referred to the competent judiciary, without leniency. He explained that the ministry will not be lenient in enforcing the law to protect consumers and the public interest, despite a significant improvement in compliance among a large segment of generator owners over the past period.
The memorandum included four main topics:
First: Meters and Official Pricing
The Ministry obligated all generator owners to install electronic meters for all subscribers, using them exclusively to calculate consumption, while strictly adhering to the monthly pricing issued by the Ministry of Energy. It prohibited the collection of any additional fees under any pretext.
Second: Continuity of Supply
The Ministry demanded that electricity be provided continuously during official power outages and that any unjustified rationing or discrimination between subscribers be prohibited.
Third: Environmental Compliance
The Ministry called for adherence to environmental standards, including the installation of filters and equipment that comply with the specifications issued by the Ministry of Environment, to preserve public health and safety.
Fourth: Cooperation with Oversight Agencies
The memorandum emphasized the need for full cooperation with the Ministry's oversight teams and security forces, enabling them to perform their duties without any obstruction. At the conclusion of the memorandum, the Ministry of Economy affirmed that any failure or violation after the deadline will be met with firm action, urging all private generator owners to fully comply with the memorandum's contents, subject to legal liability.
